Как бы Вы описали себя?: I am a humble country boy who ended up as a D. C. lawyer. First thing first: I take my Christianity very seriously, and I agree with Socractes that the unexamined life is not worth living. People who do not contemplate the spiritual and metaphysical life of the soul bore me. I love my family and friends; I like my job.

I am often quiet, but can become quite passionate and animated about areas of interest, of which I have several. I enjoy listening to people intently, but if someone has nothing but negativity to say, count me out. Most people I interact with as friends, colleagues, etc. find me to be an agreeable sort, but I suppose those who don't either don't interact with me or don't tell me. In which case, who cares?

I can be very serious about serious matters, but I am generally someone trying in every situation to find the humorous and the positive. Life can be boring and even bleak if you let it, so I make it a high priority to enjoy little blessings of everyday life.

I love to share a laugh or a smile--to understand and to be understood. I love to observe Creation, whether it's the splendor of nature or the mystery of humanity. People can be comic and tragic, often at the same time, and I learn a lot through observing people interact. I love authors who capture this, like Dostoevsky and Chekov.

I quite enjoy traveling, especially within the many wonderful and variant places in this great Country of ours. Luckily, my job has allowed me to see lots of out-of-the-way places. I also enjoy staying in to read, although I am very peripatetic, and really enjoy getting out to walk around the neighborhood or a park.

I love to read, but can be a bit of a snob. I don't care for much of any literature written in the last 100-200 years, unless it's Dostoevsky. I read mostly theology, law, policy, history, economics, and philosophy—and the Wall St. Journal in the morning. That said, I don't care for people that try to impress others with what they read for the sake of mere jockeying. On the other hand, I love discussing the world of ideas with people who can hold an intelligent conversation where everyone contributes to, and benefits from, the interaction.

People who like my humor call me witty or fun; those who don't usually don't stick around long enough to say anything. Again, win-win. Let's just say my conversations are seldom dull; if things get stale, I start looking for the exits. I'm actually easy to have a conversation with, though, because I've read enough on divers and sundry topics that I have at least a little knowledge in whatever area is being discussed--or at least enough to do a convincing job of faking it. I'm also always on the lookout for interesting topics I haven't encountered before, so when someone catches me entirely flat-footed (doesn't happen much anymore), I love to listen to their explication.

I take a lot of walks and runs around Alexandria. I write a lot, both for work and for pleasure, and I try to do that on paper outdoors or at a cafe. I read quite a bit, and haven't owned a TV ever.

Someone who can be satisfied with a little, but is not intimidated by having a lot. Someone who is loyal and appreciates the person that I am, not just that I am a lawyer, or whatever. I will not be unfaithful to a wife, and I expect a wife to be loyal and faithful in return. Someone who can be honest, even critical, without becoming complaining.
